In German Frankfurt, spring comes with a breath of history, as if the ripples of time are flooding the ancient streets. I became fascinated by the city’s historical attractions, where every corner seemed to have its own story waiting to be captured by the camera.
I spent three days in Frankfurt, experiencing the history of Schweizer Strasse, an artist’s quarter on the banks of the Rhine, the history museum near Künstlerplatz and the Frankfurt Cathedral. This attire kept toasty warm and made it easy to walk around, allowing me to soak up the city’s charms. Before exploring Frankfurt, I put on a light cotton jacket, a pair of jeans a comfortable walking shoes.
The Schweizer Strasse
The Schweizer Strasse, the artist’s quarter on the Rhine, is one of Frankfurt’s jewels, a vibrant and creative place. Strolling along the streets is like entering an artistic paradise, full of surprising cultural surprises.
I walked leisurely along Schweizer Strasse, lined with colourful buildings, graffiti art on the walls, street sculptures and installations everywhere, every painting and sculpture is the crystallisation of the inspiration of the artists, full of life’s fun and philosophical ideas.
Here, I met a street performer with a guitar in his hand and a big smile on his lips. He played and sang a moving melody with a clear and melodious voice that seemed to envelop the whole street in an atmosphere of joy. Passers-by stopped to listen, some swaying to the rhythm, some closing their eyes to revel in the music. I was also attracted by the beautiful music and grabbed my camera to capture the moment.
On Schweizer Strasse, there are also many small shops which are filled with all kinds of interesting artefacts. I walked into a handicraft shop and saw many exquisite handmade products, including ceramics, wood carvings, jewellery and so on, each of which was crafted to perfection. I chatted with the shop owner and learnt that all these artworks were carefully made by local artists, and each piece contained their love of life and pursuit of art.
As night fell, I chose to stay at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof in the old town. This excellent accommodation is housed in a historic building, and its luxurious rooms and attentive service made me feel right at home during my tiring journey.
The Frankfurt Main Cathedral
It was with a great sense of excitement that I arrived in Frankfurt on the second day of my trip to the city that is full of history. The Frankfurt Main Cathedral was one of the most looked forward to attractions in my itinerary. As soon as I arrived at this magnificent Gothic building, I was struck by its magnificence. The spring sunlight poured over the ancient stone walls, making the main church even more solemn.
I stepped through the doors of the cathedral and was immediately awed by the interior. The soaring vaults, colourful glass windows, exquisite frescoes, everything shows the wisdom and creativity of mankind. I grabbed my camera and recorded the details, each press of the shutter was a sign of respect and cherishing of history.
Climbing up the main tower, I was treated to a breathtaking view of the city. The Rhine River shimmered in the sunlight, and the buildings in the distance loomed in the clouds, as if a magnificent painting were unfolding before my eyes. I was immersed in this beautiful scenery, feeling the blend of history and modernity, and the beauty of peace and freedom!
Constable Square
In the middle of the afternoon on the third day, I decided to take a stroll around the history museum near Konstlerplatz. Kunstlerplatz is a lively part of Frankfurt, surrounded by cafes and food stalls where people hang out, chat and enjoy the street performers. The square is home to an old fountain with splashing water, giving it a peaceful feel.
The Museum of History is situated near the square and is an imposing building. It has a distinctive appearance, as if it were an old castle, and one can’t help but be attracted to it. Entering the hall of the museum, I was struck by the displays in front of me. The exhibition hall was filled with all kinds of historical relics and exhibits, ranging from ancient pottery to modern technological products, which were colourful and fascinating.
I was so immersed in the exhibits that I kept taking photos to record them. Each exhibit was a small story that told the past of Frankfurt.
For 3 days in the Schweizer Strasse, the artists’ quarter on the banks of the Rhine, I felt like I was in a world of creativity and energy. I have a strong memory of the art and crafts that lined the streets, a memory that will stay with me for a long time to come.
The History Museum gave me a deeper understanding of Frankfurt’s history. The historical artefacts and exhibits displayed in the exhibition halls, such as ancient pottery and modern technological products, made me feel as if I had travelled back in time and felt the rich historical heritage of the city.
And I was even more impressed by the magnificent view of Frankfurt’s main church. Standing at the top of the main tower, overlooking the whole city, I felt the shock of intersecting with history. The interior of the main church is beautifully decorated, and every detail shows the wisdom and courage of mankind.
This trip not only gave me a deeper understanding of Frankfurt’s history and culture, but also made me think more about life. I am overwhelmed with emotion and would like to treasure this wonderful experience in my heart and soul forever.
Also, in the end, according personal experience, there are some little tips to those first visit Frankfurt.
- Plan Your Trip In Advance
I looked up a lot of information about Frankfurt before I arrived and created a detailed itinerary. This not only ensured that I wouldn’t miss any important sights and activities, but also allowed me to better organise my time and make the most of each day of my trip.
- Mind The Weather
I found the weather in Frankfurt to be unpredictable, especially in the spring when it can be showery or cloudy. Therefore, I carry rain gear and warm clothing with me just in case. This allows me to enjoy my trip in any weather.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes
I walked a lot while visiting the history museums and strolling through the artists’ quarter. Therefore, I chose to wear comfortable shoes to ensure that I could walk with ease and not have my travelling experience compromised by sore feet.
- Respect For Local Culture
When visiting religious places and historical sites, I respect local culture and customs. I show respect by remaining quiet, not touching exhibits, and trying to follow the rules.
